This wine was produced from our two acre plot of Malbec located in the top of our west facing slope. Extensive shoot thinning soon after budburst and crop thinning later in the year resulted in a yield of 2 tonnes per acre, producing enough fruit to fill two barrels.
The wine was harvested in early April, and destemmed before being transferred into a small concrete open fermentor. Following primary fermentation, the wine was pressed and transferred into one year old medium toast French barrels where it underwent malolactic fermentation. Following malo our Malbec remained in oak for 12 months.
Pale magenta in colour, the aroma of this young red shows intense primary characters of blackberries and violet integrating with toasty cedery oak. The palate is powerful, rich, ripe and complex. Firm tannins provide great length.
This wine should age beautifully. Peak drinking 2008.
