Our Reserve de la Cave wines are produced from the centre of our original south facing slope of the Woodlands Vineyard, planted between 1975 and 1976.
The 2009 vintage produced excellent ripe characters across the board, and the Reserve de la Cave range is no exception! In 2009 the crop levels for Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir were around average (2 tonnes per acre) while the Malbec yield was considerably lower (1 tonne per acre).
This wine was hand picked by the Watson family and friends before being crushed and fermented in a small open fermenter. After fermentation this wine was racked into French oak barrels where it remained for 11 months.
This wine shows lifted strawberry patch and red berry fruits on the nose. The palate follows with nose together with and a supple texture, toasty French oak, and a long finish.
